Ted Sink turns ideas into symbols, symbols into feelings, feelings into actions.

Take a look at the graphic on the left.  My youngest daughter sent it to me on Fathers' Day last year. I put it it on this page for two reasons. One, because I love looking at it; and two, to illustrate the evocative power of words. Unlike advertising, this graphic doesn't ask me to take some action I wouldn't otherwise take. But it could. And if it did, you can be damned sure I'd do anything that was asked of me. Within reason, of course.
          That's the way advertising and promotional copy should work. It should evoke emotion that causes people to act, within reason, in ways they wouldn't otherwise. To buy a product, contribute to a cause, vote for a candidate, change their minds on an issue, even hire a personal injury lawyer.
          When someone hires me to promote something, I do my best to create copy that is so emotionally and intellectually evocative that those who read it are moved to do exactly as I wish. Within reason, of course.
